Homemade Play Dough

A friend send me this play dough recipe, which she tried and said it was very successful! I had no idea one could make play dough so easily at home, so of course I got excited. After talking about it with a few moms though, I realized it is very common! Home made play dough is easy to make, cheap, and much healthier. It is toxic free, kids might accidently put it in their mouths and it wont matter, it is not sticky, you can make a big quantity and save it in your firdge, and last but not least it is a great activity to do together with you kid!

Of course you might find many play dough recipes, but try this one out and let us know what you think! Happy kneading!

For a big quantity you will need:

  •  1 cup white flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 2tbsp cream of tartar
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 pack 3oz Jello

Note: even with half of the quantity you will still have a lot to play with!

  1. Add all the ingredients in a small saucepan and mix them together until there are no lumps. Don’t be afraid to let your kids mix them. They will enjoy it for sure!
  2. Although this next step might take a while, it is what makes this recipe stand out from the rest. Over medium heat, keep stirring until your dough thickens and becomes a ball. You will know it is ready when you cannot stir any more.

When you are done with the cooking let the dough cool for about 20-30minutes, onto a floured cutting board.

You are almost ready, and in this next step your kids can help too. Let them knead it, adding while they do so about 1/2 a cup of flour until it is no longer sticky. If you want more vibrant colours, at this step, you can add extra food colouring.
